Problem with HP DV6000

Hello,
my notebook HP DV6000 works fine.After 1 or 2 hours the display turns black.
I have noticed that the left side of th notebook becomes hot.Is this normal?
How can I fix it?

This series of laptops has a history of problems with over heating. This HP site has info on an extended warranty that may apply to your PC.
