My hdtv have no sound

Hello,
I'am using my hdtv on my computer but the hdmi cable doesn't have a sound there is no sound i went to the control panel and clicked the sound thing but i didn't find any devices in the device menu any help i am connecting my hdmi cable from hdtv to nvidia gts 250 gpu hdmi port so any help will be very useful please i tried every thing i can't play with any sound.

My understanding is you have to add a S/PDIF cable from the motherboard to the video card to get sound via the HDMI port.
