Laptop(vga) to Hdtv(hdmi)

Hello,
my laptop has a VGA output, it doesnt have an HDMI output sadly :( But i want to connect it to my Sony HdTv. I saw a cable on eBay saying vga to hdmi. Can i use this? I also asked the seller about the cable and he said my laptop has to support digital signal output. How do i know if this cable will work.

The VGA signal is analog. So the ebay vendor is full of sh**t. The only good converters cost $50 to $80 US and they probably will not give you a full screen display on the TV. You will also not have any sound on the TV unless you run a wire from the Mic outlet on the laptop and the TV must accept the audio input (some will not activate the audio input port).
