Hello,
Try this 1
1) Disable the windows firewall and check if you are able to ping Windows 7 to Windows XP.
2) Reestablish the network sharing by running the network wizard once again both in Windows XP and Windows 7 with some other different workgroup name.
Good Luck

jack4rall,
Thanks for your suggestions. Tried both 1 & 2 and no change. Poked around some more and found something interesting. First, I need to desribe my network. The router has one XP, one NAS and feeds 3 switches. Switch 1 has one XP and runs Wi-Fi. Switch 2 has one XP and 3 media devices. Switch 3 has two XP, the new Win7 and 2 printers. All devices can reach the cloud. Other than the Win7, all other computers/devices behave as one would expect.
Here's what's peculiar about the Win7. First, it can ping the XP on the same switch but no other XP. However, it can ping any non-computer device on any switch/router. Only the XP on the same switch can ping Win7. When I do a network map on Norton Security, all the devices show up, both on Win7 and other XPs. When I try to map a network drive on Win7, none of the other computers on workgroup "chicago" show up. Despite not showing up in the network browse, I can map shared drives by entering \\XPname\sharename.
So I'm suspicious that something about network sharing inbound and outbound is not set correctly on Win7. But beyond killing the firewall, which doesn't work, I'm stumped on what to do next.
Can you think of anything else to try?
