Neither desktop nor laptop will recognize any external storage

Hello,

So as of the last few days, neither of my computers will recognize ANY external storage devices (phone plugged in with USB or SD card from digital camera) except my external hard drive. I can't get any of my pictures off of them and onto my computer. I tried the computer management>properties thing but it wants to erase all the data that I'm try to get onto the computer. Also these are all devices I have used with these computers before in the same way without any issues. What do I do?!
