How to connect my laptop to my Sony Bravia

Hello,

I would like to connect my DELL Latitude E6410 to my Sony Bravia LCD TV but get a black screen after connecting the VGA cable, selecting computer mode on the TV and choosing the 'Duplicate' option when I press the 'Fn and F8 keys.

One suggestion has been to change the resolution to 1920 x 1080 but resolution only goes up to 1024 x 768. Any suggestion anyone? Please.

There is one more setting in advance tab of display settings which says dpi settings you have to set it too.
