Hp pavillion 4 black screen

My laptop is an hp pavillion 4 where everything else works except for the screen stays black, no response. I've tried the power button reboot several times to no avail. Are there any other suggestions you may have that does not include sending to a repair shop, that is out of the question.

Hello,

This issue with laptops is recurrent.

If you can hear the computer starting and the fan is running, it could be a fried video card (connect to another computer to verify)

If it's not the video card, it could be the screen's backlights or converter. (To be checked by a qualified technician)
