Hello,
My passport WD external drive just stopped working on Laptop
I have Vista on my Laptop. My passport Wd external Drive Just stopped being recognized by my PC. The hard drive is lite but not flashing, The hard drive is running, When I check the computer management of my pc, the drive show up as unallocated with a red cross or what look like a cross on drive symbol. all though it doesn't come up as even being recognized as a drive when I look at my computer. it just shows C: drive and Hp recovery D:
I really some Help with my external drive don't want to loose my data on that drive.
Also note that my computer won't boot up when external drive is plugged into USB port.
Thank you

The USB hard drive controller or the hard drive itself has failed. If it's just the controller. Then you might be able to remove the drive and place it into another USB enclosure.
Good Luck

Is there any other information you may give me so that i can also try or confirm the problem? I 'm not tech savoy enough to to remove hard drive from the external hard drive and place in another USB enclosure. Although I'm not far from actually doing it if it will save my information.
