Cant see my films ive downloaded they used to

Hello,
ive downloaded some films and was able to play them on my windows media player but for some reason i cant anymore i seem to have codec becausse i can see it at the bottom of the screen saying acquiring codec i really have no idea whats gone wrong any suggestions ???
