Sound device

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 5100 and the sound went out on it. When I hover over the icon in the lower right corner, it say 'No Audio output Device is Installed'. I have tried downloading drivers but does no good. Do I have to replace the motherboard to get this sound to work again?
