Hello,

I am new to Excel and know very basic formulas. I have made a spreadsheet and have everything pretty much ok except for one part I need help with. It looks like this:

wk1 code wk2 code wk3 code wk4 code wk5 code
jan
feb
mar
etc...

in the "code" column will be one of the following letters - B Y M H A. In the wk1-wk5 column will be currency sums. I need a formula that will allow me on a seperate worksheet to be able to identify each code and return the sum value of each week for each month.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi bw-777,

A little clarification will help here. From your post it is not clear as to what format your next sheet should look. A more clear explanation about your expression "identify each code and return the sum value of each week for each month" will help me figure out the actual situation. If you have a sample file you can upload the same here:

I am uploading a copy of the worksheet for you to see. On the first worksheet "giving" you will see two different columns, one for "general" and the one on the right for "other." In the one on the right you will see the month, week and a space beside each week for a code (or letter) that you will see directly below each of the entries. Under the tab, "summary of giving" you will see that I have one table set up already for the "general" account. What I need is to make another table in that same worksheet that will reflect the "other" account under the "giving" worksheet as it relates to each of those code letters. For example:

wk1 code wk2 code wk3 code wk4 code wk5 code
jan 1.00 a 3.00 b 4.00 m 5.00 y 3.00 h
feb 3.00 m 3.00 h 3.00 y 2.00 b 2.00 a
mar
etc.

I need someone to show me how to write a formula that will tell the "cell" that formula is in to reflect the "sum" total of wk1 if code equals (whatever letter happens to be there) all the way down through the "giving" worksheet. I hope that makes sense.
