Restore procedures often differ between makes and models of computers. If you give us the model perhaps someone has personal experience that might be of help.
What makes you think that a factory restore is in order?
A factory restore will not solve any hardware related problems you might have.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C670D. My problem all started when I was doing an Adobe update and my computer froze up. When I restarted it it said I needed to reinstall. I ordered the disks from Toshiba and the instructions it is giving me is to start my computer, put in the CD, turn it off and then press the C key while pushing the power button. Then to release the C key when the Toshiba logo appears. But I do not get the logo instead it tries to load windows and sometimes it will bring up the windows flag and then stop or takes me back to the boot manager where I started at before putting in the CD. Could thins mean that it is my CD drive that is not functioning?? Any help on this would be appreciated. Thank you

I think you should try pressing and holding the "c" key then with the other had press the power button. It needs to get the timing just right to start the restore. You might need to try a few times before all the conditions are met.
