Unable to format Hard Drive

I am unable to format External Hard Drive. It gives me an error windows was not able to complete the format. Any solution. I am not able to view any contents in the Hard rive. Kindly help me fix this problem.

How're you formatting it?

Does it have a drive letter?

can you read/write to it?

I am not able to read it. It is detecting on my system. I am trying to format it buy right click on the drive and selecting format. It is drive F

can you use command prompt

Start > run > type cmd and press OK > format F: and press enter?

Go to desktop and right button the my computer and select the Manage
then go to disk management from the options
then select the flash drive from the clicked windows..i think its may be 3rd window

i m facing the same problem.i have tried the two methods given above but it is useless.kindly help.
