I have a Dell Inspiron zino hd computer that is approx 3 years old. The built in dvd, cd drive has always work perfectly. However now it will not burn a disc. Do I need a new
burner or is it a software issue?

Thanks, Jerry Davis

Hi Jerry Davis,

Please try the below mentioned steps and reply with the results:

1. Check with a known good Blank DVD media to see if same issue occurs. If no, the issue is with the DVD media not the drive. Else, follow next steps.
2. Run Optical Drive Troubleshooter from Windows 7 Troubleshooter. Click here to access Windows 7 Troubleshooter for Optical Drive.
3. Run Dell 32-bit Diagnostics on Optical drive. Click here to find steps on how to run Dell 32-bit Diagnostics. If test fails, reply with the exact error code returned. Else, follow next steps.
4. Download and install the latest Optical Drive Firmware and BIOS from support site. Restart the system.
5. Uninstall and re-install Dell provided DVD/BD recording software. (Roxio/Sonic Record Now).
6. Update recording software (Roxio/Sonic Record Now) thorough the Update option within the software.
7. If still not fixed, burn a blank optical media using Windows Built-in burning engine.
8. If still not resolved, perform PC Restore or re-install Operating System.
9. If the problem still exists Replace the Optical Drive.
