Black ScreenToshiba L 355D after successful complete restore

I had a lot of trouble with my machine, now 4 years old. Visa OS When it couldn't properly restart, I used the nuclear option and wiped out my files. However, it did do the trick. But this morning, when I tried to reboot, I just get a black screen. It does turn on but nothing else. I have tried to turn off/on, removed the battery, but nothing works. Any suggestions?

this did work after turning on and off several times but then when I tried to download a necessary program it again disappeared from the screen and now nothing brings it back
