Recovery options vary with the make and model. Older Windows XP laptops did not have the range of options that newer computers have. You might need to have a repair shop reinstall Windows for you.
What options do you get if you press F8 or F11 during the booting?

Hi mhmamsterdam,
Yes, it is possible to do a factory restore if the virus-issue is limited to operating system only. If the virus has caused damage to the "Recovery Partition" on your computer, you might not be able to restore to factory settings. In this case you will have to install the Operating System from the OEM Disc and then install the drivers and other software.
If you need steps and details about the Recovery Options available on your Inspiron Laptop, please reply with the exact System Model Number of your Dell Inspiron Laptop.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the info. It is the Inspiron Mini 10 model and the Control F11 does not do anything. No disc on the mini just jump drives

Hi mhmamsterdam,
Access the "Dell Factory Image Restore tool" from the <F8> boot menu rather than using the <CTRL><F11> shortcut.
Please note that if you created a second partition with a third-party utility, Dell Factory Image Restore is not affected as long as the image partition is not removed.
Do reply with results.
