Hello,
Try this 1
1) Unplug the power cord --> Remove the battery --> Hold the power button for
60 seconds --> Connect the power supply then try to switch ON the laptop and
later put the battery back into the laptop.
2) If the problem still exists then click on the below link and follow the instructions

Good stuff, tried the first option, it worked but the problem keeps on recurring.

Hello,
Try this 1
Unplug the power cord --> Remove the battery --> Hold the power button for more than 60 seconds --> Leave the Laptop for around 5mins and connect the power supply then try to switch ON the laptop. Shutdown the laptop and then Turn ON the laptop to check if the issue still exists. Later place the battery back into the laptop. If the problem still exists then let us know your laptop brand name and complete model number.

I did as u said, shutdown the laptop and this time around the screen is still black even upon several power on and off. Dont really know the cause of this problem. the machine is Hp Pavilion Dv7
