Laptop stops charging after a while

i have a gateway nv51. The laptop charges for about 20 seconds and after the charger light starts blinking orange and it stops charging. i just got a new charger and i dont want to get a new one. HELP!

Have you checked the battery? It could be that the battery is not charging, as opposed the the charger not working. It should tell you in your control panel if your battery is at the end of its life.
