Dual Monitor Disaster

Okay so I was trying to set up dual monitors with one being my laptop which is an HP Pavilion TouchSmart 14 Sleekbook. I went to the settings for dual monitors with my 22 inch monitor connected via hdmi to vga. Once I connected the monitor to my computer the monitor read, "Cable not connected". In order to fix this, I messed around with some of the settings. You know how you can choose if you want to duplicate, extend, or like only view main monitor or 2nd monitor? Well I accidentally clicked on only display 2nd monitor and since that monitor would work in the fist place, my laptop is just a black screen. Please help me! I just got this laptop and I feel terrible! Thank you so much ahead of time!
