How to set different wallpapers on dual monitors: Windows 10

It is becoming more common to have a dual monitor setup for working or gaming on your PC. You may be interested in having different wallpapers for each display to give a more immersive appearance. In this article we will show you three methods for having different wallpapers, from the official Windows solutions to a third party option.

How to add multiple wallpapers on Windows 10?

Microsoft has added a feature that allows users to directly set wallpapers for individual monitors through the Settings app, rather than using a third party work around. Here's how you can do it:

  • Right-click on your desktop and select "Personalise" from the context menu.
  • In the Settings app, navigate to the "Background" section under "Personalisation."
  • Under the "Choose your picture" section, you will see a list of available wallpapers.
  • Right-click on the wallpaper you want to set on a specific monitor and choose the option "Set for monitor 1," "Set for monitor 2," and so on, depending on the number of monitors you have.
  • If you want to add additional wallpapers to the list, click on the "Browse" button and select the image you want to use. Windows will set this image as your default wallpaper on all desktops.
  • To set different wallpapers for each monitor from the added images, right-click on the wallpaper icons in the "Choose your picture" section and select the monitor you want to use each wallpaper on.

This method simplifies the process of setting individual wallpapers for each monitor in Windows 10 and eliminates the need for third-party software. If you are running a more recent version of Windows 10, you should be able to use this built-in feature.

How to change wallpapers frequently on Windows 10?

There is an alternative method that allows you to rotate and frequently change you wallpaper using the Windows built in slideshow feature. This will give you different wallpapers for each monitor, that can also change throughout the day.

  • Firstly, decide on the image or images that you want to use as wallpapers. Make sure that the sizing of the images is appropriate for each monitor.
  • Put the images in a dedicated folder
  • Right-click on the desktop and select "personalise"
  • In the "Background" drop-down menu, choose "Slideshow." Then click on "Browse" to find the folder where you saved the images.
  • Select the folder and click "Choose this folder."
  • Now you can set the duration of the wallpaper with the "Change picture every" option.
  • On each image, click on the "Fit" drop-down menu and choose "Span" to have different images on each monitor.
  • Once you close the Settings window, your wallpapers should now rotate based on the slideshow settings, with different images on each monitor.

How to change wallpaper with Third-Party Software?

Using Third-Party Software (DisplayFusion) DisplayFusion is a popular third-party application that allows you to customize multi-monitor setups, including setting different wallpapers for each monitor. Here's how you can do it:

  • Download and install DisplayFusion from the official website
  • Launch DisplayFusion after installation.
  • Right-click on the DisplayFusion icon in the system tray (usually located in the bottom right corner of the screen).
  • Navigate to "Monitor Configuration" and ensure that the monitors are arranged correctly based on their physical layout.
  • Right-click on the DisplayFusion icon again and go to "Wallpaper."
  • You can now choose different wallpapers for each monitor. You can use images from your computer or select online wallpaper sources.
