My toshiba laptop's screen is not responding...looks black !

I was working yesterday on my TOshiba laptop satelite U500 ..all of a sudden my screen turned into black and it is not showing anything yet..can u please tell me some remedy how can i solve this problem??

This could be either a problem with:
1. screen backlight
2. inverter that supplies power to the backlight
3. data/power cable from motherboard to screen
4. power supply circuit on the motherboard

None of these things can be fixed by the average home user. I suggest you find a qualified repair shop and have them give you an estimate.
