HP Laptop - factory reset

I have an HP Laptop. It is a Windows 7 Home Premium. I have tried safe mode to try to reset to the default setting and I have also tried the startup repair. I have been waiting on the startup repair for about an hour now and still nothing. It will turn on and go to the users screen to log in. I log in and then it turns to a black screen. Does anyone know how to reset to default setting or factory setting? Please help ASAP!!
