I have tried and retried without getting beyond the above hang point. Are there any recommendations other than installing a new Windows OS. It is currently using Windows 7 Home Premium. It is past the warranty period and paying for 3RD party tech support that may or may not help and is difficult to communicate with is not in my nature!
I am contemplating pulling this hard drive and adding a SSD with Windows 8.1 to bring the overall performance up and reduce the heat factor.

I was able to find some Windows 7 repair tools at www.neosmart.net which I then loaded onto a disk. I rebooted from the disk after changing the bios settings to load the disc player first. I used the automated repair function on the disk menu for the windows partition. It apparently fixed the corrupted file within the restore files loaded on the laptop partition. After several retries it was able to complete the restore process-Yeahhh!!
