The Microsoft Windows update site will provide your updates. It will send you a hundred or more updates and will take many hours if not days. You will finish a set of updates then the application will find more. Eventually it will finish.

Thank you for quick reply. Hoping that is so my updates so far are 'pending', guess the lastest can not be put onto the empty hole. Just wonder if I update IE myself if it will mess up the order of previous updates to come.

That's a good question. With this level of complexity nothing is ever assured. I just reinstalled Vista on an old computer. It went through 3 or 4 cycles of updates before it finished. Sometimes updates failed the first time and then completed the second time. Some updates of IE require you to only select/update IE and require a restart before any other updates can be installed.
For security reasons I would suggest you not extensively browse the internet until all the updates have been completed. Perhaps the first item to download would be a good anti-virus product.

Noticing today that each time I shut down I get more updates a few do fail - glad to hear you did this w/Vista. I am now getting update form 2014 and 2010 not too many. Have McAfee will make sure it is on nd thank you.
