I recently got a virus on my computer that hid my start menu and deleted my system restore files. Because I didn't know the nature of the virus, I deleted some of the files it takes to bring back my start menu the easy way. I have the default programs back, but it is missing all my old program links like Microsoft Office, etc.
I have tried unhide.exe and the .smtmp file is no longer recoverable on my computer. Any suggestions? I believe I have everything under control now with the virus, so I would just like to fix what it destroyed.

Using Explorer you can navigate to the exe file for Word in the Program Files folder. First shrink the Explorer pane so you have a view of a piece of the desktop. You right click and hold the mouse key down after you have found the Word.exe file. Then drag the file to an empty space on the desktop. Then release the mouse key and choose "create shortcut here" option. You can do that for other programs in the office suite.
