                    OK if reboot didn't work, how are you connected to the network?  Do yu have a valid IP address? Can you ping your gateway?  Is you wifi even on?

If you start your computer in safe mode with networking, is your Firefox launching ?
P.S. If you are using IE8, there is presently and for the past 7 months a security bug which has not yet been patched by Microsoft.
