dvd rom driver missing Closed

Question

hi guys, 

I have hp laptop ... for some reason when i put in a cd/dvd i can hear the cd run/spin for a few seconds and then nothing happens. no pop up page comes up asking me what i shud do. BUT.. when i eject the dvd rom... the cd is still spinning ... 

i went to device manager and saw that there is no dvd/cd drive. 

I tried to download a driver but it did not work..I went on the microsoft fix it... but it says it cannot run with my version. I got windows 8.1.. 

what can i do 

please help

hi, 
i used this solution: 

open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter, follow these steps: 
Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run dialog box. 
Type control in the Run dialog box, then press Enter. 
In the Search box in Control Panel, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting.
Under the Hardware and Sound item, click Configure a device. If you are prompted to enter an administrator password or provide confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation 

over here... i come to a message says apply a fix... a press next... i get the same error/..... so i chose the next option which is continue without the fix... 

so i can see what drivers are missing but cant do anything after that... only ''close option is there 

i have a Coprocessor driver missing..............a base system device that does not have a driver.. 

the other options on the website dont help 

what shud i do.. please help

ok... so certain things like base system device... has been solved... coprocessor is being worked on,,,,

any solution for the dvd rom... lemme know ok

Run Windows updates and make sure your PC is fully up to date and has Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installed.

yes.... i updated it this morning... when i goto device manager... the dvd/cd rom itself id missing...

There should be a little screw if you flip over the laptop which holds the cd drive in place.

if you can find it and unscrew it and pull out the DVD drive then insert it again, it may detect.

whats under optical drives in device manager?

your drive isnt being picked up by the motherboard.

you need to unplug it and plug it back in physically.

there should be alist like so?  Your MB shhould see a generic dvd device, and the driver makes it run to its potential.  SO look for any type of designation as in below:

Ok, it may be in another menu item.  Along the top of the page, look for advanced, and you might find a boot order, that will list all of the available drive.

Try this first.  Just reset your bios back to default and save it and reboot.  Do that first.  Do you have another known good drive?

ok.. so what u asked me to find is a bit difficult.. but... i went onto system config... boot options... boot order and saw atapi cd/dvd rom... but that it.. i cant do anything else...

I still think you should unplug it and put it back in. It's only held in with one screw.

You've unplugged, turned it on/off. Plugged it back in and turned it on and windows still doesn't see it?

i shut my laptop off....   opened the screw.... pulled out the dvd rom.... put it back it..... screwed it back.... then put laptop on...

shud i have done it some other way
