Hello,
I found a lost laptop and I am trying to find the owner. It is running windows vista and is password protected. There are two different user account listed on the login screen. I need to figure out how to bypass the login so I can see if there is enough information on the computer to find the owner. I have already tried listing it in the paper and have emailed microsoft with the product key, but I haven't had any luck yet. Any advice on how to get past the passwords would be appreciated.

Thanks,

wesley

Just reset the computer, as it boots up keep pressing f8, or f11 it varies for other brands. Then a black and white menu should come up, in this menu click 'Boot with safe mood' Or 'Safe Mode with Command Prompt'. Or something along those lines. As it boots there should be a new account ( graphics may look dull and bad ) called administrator. This account would normally not be password protected if it is try basic ones like admin or administrator. If you have enough luck and one of the passwords or it doesn't have a password works you can just go in and go to control panel and change the password. If you have selected boot with command prompt just type in the black box that appears (you have to be logged into to the administrator account) net user. This lists all the user names, now type "Net user ______ *" without quotations.(Replace ____ with user name) So it should look something like this.
Command prompt .......
C>..blah blah..... : Net user
User names:
Joe Bobby Administrator
Net user Bobby *
Type a password for this user:____________ (As you type nothing should appear)
Type the password again:_____________
