Resolution causes shutdown

i have a problem with my graphics ... when resolution is set to low the computer runs well but as soon as it is set high the computer shuts down.........it happens in windows 8.1,8,7... i have tried all..... also when i installed intel 3000 hd graphics the same problem arouses please help ... laptop - asus x44h i3 ... currently running windows 7 home premium

How much RAM do you have. It sounds as though the video card starts to use up all of the shared ram, leaving you with none to operate. Look into your RAM.
