My computer screen goes black and I am using desktop

Hello, when I turn it my computer it shows the Windows XP startup and then the computer screen goes black. and I wanted to try those ways on how to solve this problem(comments from above) but I am not using a laptop so is the process still the same ?
1) UNPLUG THE LAPTOP
2) REMOVE THE BATTERY
3) HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO 2 MINUTES
4) THEN PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN
5) START IT UP..

No. That process only works of a specific laptop problem.

You should probably look into testing using a Linux bootable CD. If Linux boots OK then you should do a disk check on the Hard disk. It's the most likely problem area.
