Hi there. I'm trying to get an old computer going for my son so he can hook it up to an unused tv in his bedroom to use for internet and downloaded movies.
I'm trying to put windows 8.1 on this machine. It's 64 bit. Have bought all the hardware needed to get this thing to work, but it is in this continuous loop. All it does is boot from CD but when it tries to do that, there is a message about Auto repair which sits there for a few seconds then dissappears and shows some error codes which are too quick to read and then goes blue screen and restarts the whole thing again. So annoying. Can anybody help?

Sounds like you need to buy a new hard disk.

Is this a new Win 8.1 install DVD or are you trying to use a DVD from another computer?

Hi there.
The hard disc drive came from my own computer and it worked just fine before I took it out and the Windows 8.1 is a brand new (legal) copy.
Thanks for trying to help

Did you change the BIOS boot order so that the DVD drive boots first? I sounds like it's trying to boot from the hard drive.

Ok. Can you format the hard drive on your other computer and then try the Windows install again?

So the Windows install DVD doesn't like hard drive and is trying to repair it?
