Now the cat comes out of the bag!
Have you dropped the hard disk or the entire machine?

Good news and bad news!
The good news, it's not the hard disk.
The bad news, it's a motherboard issue.
As you can see in this picture, a motherboard is composed of hundreds of fragile parts which may loosen and/or short circuit when the board receives a blow.

It probably can be fixed but a qualified technician must make a diagnosis. You may be lucky, it could just be a loosen part (some are glued with thermal paste. Just see someone who is competent.

I am getting info bit by bit.
When DST short disk fails it means that that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status on this link:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/weInput?cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=4221435&task=
Good luck and God save the Queen.

1. You may have got a lemon.
2. The drop may not have helped.
3. Could have been damaged it the shipping process.
You may as well get HP take over from here and if under warranty, it will not cost you a penny.
If you purchased it from a retail store, they should take it back and they should give you a new one in exchange.
That's the way the cookie crumbles.
