Can you tell me, please, which model is the mentioned WD 1TB drive?
You could try uninstalling the drive of the WD device from the Device manager of your computer.
After that, restart your PC, while connected the WD device with the new USB cable and Windows should be able to automatically detect the device.
I guess you have checked if the cable is ok?
