Hello
Brian meant this:
If Gmail has not deleted the messages from the server, you can recover deleted emails after deleting them from your trash folder. You must open your gmail then click the drop down grey arrow on the left from your search box at the top of the screen. it will then ask you several question such as to: or from, subject, key words or date within. Click on the blue search button on the bottom left of the search box and all of your deleted emails will be revealed.

Thank you. But once again my elderly brain cannot cope with the problem. I followed your instructions and found all the useless unwanted emails that I had put into trash since last August but the important ones that I had placed in Categories, in 8 Personal folders are missing. The folder names still exist but 7 are empty.
Can you please help with this? Some of the messages were very important for me---i.e. in Family.

Alas. Woe is me! And to think I was under the impression that NOTHING was ever lost. Clearly I have been watching too much telly. Thank you for bothering to answer me. DottyT

Unfortunately, GMail makes periodic sweeps to delete old messages, I guess it is a question of space and cleanliness!

Just one more question. How did you get that lovely SORRY picture ? Can I get it to put in my emails as I often have to apologise for late answering and now it will be for 'Sorry, have lost your last 5 emails".. (Where does your lovely name Ambucias come from? Greek???)

Hi both,
I'm not really conversant with this process, but I just had an odd thought (which I often do ... a sign of my age ...)
What happens if you were to do the same process again, but this time from within one of your folders? Gmail could well have permanently deleted the emails, but I wonder if the recovery process only actions from the file you are in? If this were true then it might be possible to get your mails back, but Im not too hopeful.
