Excel 2011 not recognizing keyboard shortcuts?

Hello,
I have been given an assignment which gives me quite specific instruction on Excel however while things like command+C works the more complicated shortcuts on the keyboard like shift+control+enter or even F4 refuses to respond! It's seriously frustrating as it restricts the things I can do or takes forever to accomplish tasks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I see you are using a Mac. Having used both the PC and Mac versions of Excel, I can tell you that the Mac shortcuts simply don't work the same way. You can also run into some trouble on PC laptops that use the "F" keys for additional functions. Can you borrow someone's PC for this assignment? I eventually drop Excel for Mac and only use a PC for Excel
