Have you tried to connect to an external monitor to see if you get a signal?

Unfortunately I'm away on vacation abroad so I'm unable to test the display with an external monitor...

If you could get a signal on an external monitor it would mean that your present screen is faulty. If you don't get a signal on an external monitor, it could be a circuit or graphic card issue.
