My laptop is dead. I have disconnected power lead and removed battery. Then held power button down for 30 seconds. Replaced power lead and pressed start buttons but nothing happens, completely dead.

Did you connect your laptop directly to the power cord using AC power adapter without battery?

THANKS FOR THE REPLY. I REMOVED THE BATTERY AND THE POWER CORD, PRESSED THE START BUTTON FOR 60 SECONDS, THEN PLUGGED THE POWER CORD BACK IN WITHOUT THE BATTERY. THE MACHINE IS COMPLETELY DEAD, I CANNOT HEAR THE FAN RUNNING. I HAVE CHECKED WITH A TEST METER THAT 19 VOLTS ARE AT THE CONNECTOR THAT PLUGS INTO THE LAPTOP. SO THERE IS DEFINITELY POIWER FED INTO THE LAPTOP. IT IS A GOOD CONDITION USED LAPTOP ACER 5735 WITH A 3 MONTH GUARANTEE, BUT I HAVE NEVER USED A LAPTOP UNTIL I BOUGHT THIS ONE ON EBAY A FEW DAYS AGO. SO I COULD BE THE PROBLEM, NOT THE LAPTOP. i WAS A PROFESSIONAL ELECTRONICS ENGINEER UNTIL I RETIRED 20 YEARS AGO SO HAVE LIMITED DIGITAL COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE, BUT AN EXPERT ON ANALOGUE COMPUTERS. I have received no technical advice whatever. It was a waste of time.

I have now installed the battery again and the power cord and switched on. The right hand light is now lit green but nothing else has happened. Does that make more sense ?
