Laptop not going to standby mode

Hello,

Please advice how to resolve the problem of my Acer Laptop, TrvaelMate 2310, operating on Microsoft Windows XP professional, Version 2002 of not going to Standby mode on completion of a session. Have done the following and still no Joy.
Went to START/ CONTROL PANEL/POWER OPTIONS./ Hibernate tab, and then selected the Enable hibernate support check box/Clicked OK to close the Power Options dialog box.
Also did the below:-
Clicked on START./CONTROL PANEL/POWER OPTIONS/Advanced tab, under When I press the power button on my computer, clicked Standby. Also clicked Standby under When I close the lid of my portable computer./Clicked Apply

Await response and advice.

So you have a newer laptop in which you installed a very old operating system. You can't expect all the hardware features to work.
