Hello,
The screen on my Dell Inspiron 1545 has just started to fade away! It leaves a feint, ghostly, imprint but the cursor control is lost, so I've forced shutdown several times, but it keeps doing it whilst the laptop is busy booting up. What can I do?
Teddyboy.

Normally the screen and the trackpad/cursor are not software/hardware connected. I suspect you have major hardware problems that only a local PC repair shop or factory service can diagnose.

Have you tried to use F11/F12 Dell hardware diagnostics?
