Can't restore laptop to factory settings

I have a gateway laptop and I'm trying to restore it to factory settings but I can't. It does not have the option to let me restore to factory settings. I tried pressing F8 and it entered the screen where I can supposedly can choose to recover it but the option is not there. I also tried doing it from the control panel but it was also not an option. I wanted to try going to gateway recovery management but that is not there/missing. Someone please help, I don't know what to do.

What model laptop do you have?
If it's an old model with Vista then you probably need a recovery CD.

It has windows 7. I dont know the model but its not very old. I have restored to factory settings before but now it doesnt have the option anymore.
