Hello,
My friends computer is an older model ASUS M2N-MX SE Plus and boot was hanging at loading "AVG" something, so I removed battery and reset jumper for five minutes. Now it gets as far as naming CPU 1 AMD North bridge and "Initializing USB Controllers" and sits there forever. Help.

Did you attempt to boot with everything but one memory module removed?
Did you try booting from a Linux bootable CD?
You need to identify if the problem is with Windows or the hardware.
If it's a Windows problem then you run the "boot repair" from the Windows CD.
You might need to re-install Windows or replace the hard disk plut re-install Windows.
Good luck
