Hey there.
If the drive has already been formatted, I assume you don't need to recover any data from it. Is that correct? If this is the case, then I'd recommend that you try the HDD with a different USB cable and a different computer, to see if the same thing happens again. You could also download the HDD manufacturer's diagnostics tool and test the drive with it, to see if there are any errors or bad sectors.
