SATA DVDRW hooked up properly to XP Computer but computer doesn't see it. I need to update the computer to Windows 7 Professional but cannot until it sees the SATA drive. All cables are hooked up and the motherboard is not too old. Not certain what the problem is but perhaps just my forgetfulness.

Did you set the BIOS mode for the port to IDE? If it's set to AHCI then Win XP can not read it.

Good luck

I truly do not understand what he said. I looked all through the BIOS and found nothing that resembled AHCI

Then I suggest you have a PC repair shop take a look at it.

When booting up the computer showed
Serial_Ch1 Master HL-DT-STDVDRRW GSA H30L.

in the device manager under cdroms it showed
!HL-DT-STDVDRRW GSA-H30L SCSI CD Rom Device
