As far as I know screenshots are stored in memory, and unless you open a picture editor and paste (right click and choose "Paste") then they are lost as soon as the computer clipboard is overwritten (or the computer switched off). When the picture editor image is saved (when you click on "Save") you have control over where the image is saved (and in what format).
