Gateway w Windows Vista won't boot

My gateway starts up with a boot screen asking to 1. Start normal or 2. Repair. No matter which I choose it goes to a black screen and won't go any further. Fan is running and cursor is on the screen which I can move but nothing else.

The only option you have is to boot from the Windows install disk and do a repair.
