Cannot save restore point xp sp2

Hello, I have the windows xp professional operating system with sp2 ,I cannot use my help and support or my system restore point.It will not let me install a reference point to fall back on.What are some tips that will resolve these issues. I need to have it resolved son as possible.Many thanks to who can help me out. Brent
