I reinstalled xp and internet well not open

I have a Toshiba Satellite A-250-S207. I am running windows XP and after I reinstalled xp it would no longer connect to the internet. It says cannot find server or dns error. The wireless and lan connection shows its connected ,however, the browser will not connect. My internet connection is good. I am using the same connection now as the one the toshiba is connected to. please help it is my grandmothers laptop. I told her i would have it done by friday and now its sunday. she is beginning to loose faith lol.

Try running in safe Mode (with networking) and then try opening internet. If that doesn't work try installing google chrome (don't if you already have it) because that usually works, if not tell me
