Hello,
can i reboot my laptop from the CD ROM with a brand new copy of Windows Xp Home Edition?? Will that work??

Yes. But, you will also need to download hardware drivers for the specific features/hardware on your laptop. You can find these drivers on the manufacturers web site or there may be a driver CD that came with the laptop. Without these drives your internet, audio, and video may not function or be substandard.
