My Acer desktop takes ages to start up.

Hello,
My Acer desktop takes ages to start up. It was new in November with windows 10 installed.

Since transferring all my stuff from my old windows 7 computer, when I start up the Acer start screen takes ages then stops and the comes back on again, all before Windows 10 has a chance to start.

Any ideas please?

Have you recently defragmented your hard disk? If not, I suggest you do before your computer gets totally jammed.

Before you defragment, deleted all of your temporary files.

Hi Thanks for your quick reply.
I defragment my hard drive every moth and my CCleaner deletes all temp files, so I don't think that's it. Any other suggestions would be gratefully received.

To help you and prescribe the remedy, I must make a diagnostic and to do so, I require a report.

1. Open this link and download ZHPDiag3 :
https://nicolascoolman.eu
(Don't be alarmed is the site is in French, it sometimes happens, the tool will take your system language and allow the download if you get a warning message, ignore it.) Click on the download button

2. Save the file on your Desktop.

3. Double click on ZHPDiag.exe and follow the installation instructions.

(For Vista, Win 7 and 8 users, click right to ensure you execute with admin right)

4. Double click on the short cut ZHPDiag on your Destktop.

5 Click on scan
Wait for the tool to finished (maybe a long time)

6. Close ZHPDiag.

7. To transmit the report, click on this link :

https://authentification.site

8. Search the directory where you installed ZHPDiag (usually C:\desktop\zhpdiag.txt).
9. Copy the url link obtained from Speedyshare and paste it here in your reply.

Hi Thanks again for your reply. Unfortunately my Norton antivirus has blocked the download as it reports it as a Trojan.
Is there a way around this please?

Hi

It's not a Trojan ! Disable your antivirus for the download process after reenable Norton.

Hi

No wonder it's so slow.

Seems to me that there too many users using the machine, too many cooks will spoil the sauce.

You have too many antivirus softwares running at the same time. They all have a scanning engine which will consume your resources a and slow down your machine.

You should have only one antivirus.

Please remove all but one of the following:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Panda Security
C:\ProgramData\F-Secure
C:\ProgramData\McAfee
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Norton Internet Security

You also have some malware to be removed, they consume your resources:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\YTD Video Downloader
PDFtoWordConverter
C:\Program Files (x86)\GreenTree Applications

Hi
Many thanks for all your hard work on this. I will uninstall the anti virus stuff but I am not sure about the fact that there are too many users.
I am the only user but I didn't know there were more. How can I remove the others please?

I have followed all of these suggestions but I am sorry to say that nothing at all has changed.

On starting my computer, I still get the Acer start screen open for about 1 minute then it goes black for a few seconds and then opens again for about another minute and then finally the blue windows 10 screen appears with the spinning dots and everything is OK. My computer is quite fast on operation, it's just the Startup that takes ages

My daughters computer starts in a flash and I noticed that she has 'Fast Startup' enabled. I do not have this facility on my desktop as apparently I don't have 'Hibernate' installed.
Any ideas please?

Hi

I know for a fact that all Norton Symantec products will considerably slow down a system on start-up.

There are also several automated tasks which you may not need such as:

Avira System Speedup Tray
Norton WSC Integration
PandaUSBVaccine
Apple\
Piriform

Look in the task manager (start-up tab) and see if some can be disabled.

On my daughters laptop under the power settings she has 'fast startup' box ticked, but on my desktop this is not available. Apparently according to one forum this is because I don't have 'hibernate' as a choice in power settings. Is this not available on a desktop, or can it be installed somehow?
