Can't type on Acer

Hello,
My Acer Aspire V 15 laptop is not letting me type letters. I turned my computer on to enter my password to access the computer and every time I press a key, nothing shows. It will let me put numbers but not letters. I can't do any sort of virus scan if I can't surpass my password so please tell me how fix this.
